保証する

ある人やその能力、品質、または真実性について公式に保証する、または責任を持つことを表す動詞です。信頼性を伴った証言や保証を行うことを意味します。
To vouch means to say strongly that someone or something is trustworthy, good, or true. It is often used when giving personal support or a guarantee, especially in the form "vouch for."
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
vouch は「自分の信用を前に出して、その人・話は大丈夫だと言う」とまとめると覚えやすいです。単なる say や think より重く、保証人になる感覚があります。頻出は vouch for ... で、I can vouch for him. なら「彼のことは私が保証する」。品質にも使えますが、guarantee が制度的・契約的な保証に寄りやすいのに対し、vouch は人の評判や事実の確かさを、自分の責任で裏打ちする語だと区別すると残ります。
Remember `vouch` as using your own trust or reputation to support someone or something. The common pattern is `vouch for`, as in `I can vouch for her`. Unlike `guarantee`, it often sounds more personal, based on your own judgment.

vouch の語源・成り立ち Etymology
vouchは古フランス語voucherを経てラテン語vocare「呼ぶ」にさかのぼる語で、もとは「証人として呼ぶ」感覚をもつ。だから単なる約束より、名を出して保証する響きが強い。関連語にvoice、advocateがある。
Vouch came through Old French voucher and goes back to Latin vocare, meaning "to call." The early idea was to call someone forward as a witness or supporter. Because of that, the word developed the sense of giving personal assurance or backing for something. Related English words from the same Latin root include voice and advocate.
