acquaintedとは、ある人や物事についてある程度知っている、または面識がある状態を表す形容詞。深い親交があるわけではないが、知識や面識がある程度あることを意味し、「get acquainted（知り合いになる）」という形でよく使われる。初対面を超えた関係や知識を持つ状況を示す。

acquainted の語源・成り立ち Etymology
ラテン語 accognoscere（よく知る）から古フランス語 acointier を経て英語に入った。ac-（～へ）+ cognoscere（知る）の構成で、cognition（認知）やrecognize（認識する）と同根。「よく知っている状態になる」が原義で、人と面識がある意味に発展した。
