An aisle is a passage between rows of seats, shelves, or other objects. It is commonly used in places like supermarkets, churches, theaters, and airplanes so people can walk through. The word usually refers to a narrow walking space inside a building or vehicle.

まず "aisle seat" をセットで覚えると定着しやすいです。飛行機で窓側は window seat、通路側は aisle seat。この "通れる細い空間" の感覚が核です。店でも grocery store aisle のように棚と棚の間を指します。hallway は建物の廊下、path は道一般なので少し違います。注意したいのは isle（島）との混同で、発音は同じでも意味は別。"walk down the aisle" は結婚式のバージンロードでもよく出ます。
Learn it with `aisle seat`. On a plane, the aisle seat is next to the narrow space people walk through, and in a store an aisle is the space between shelves. Do not mix it up with `isle`, which sounds the same but means an island.

aisle の語源・成り立ち Etymology
「aisle」は古フランス語 aile／aisle、さらにラテン語 ala「翼」に由来します。教会の本堂の横に伸びた『建物の翼』が脇通路を指すようになり、通路の語なのに原義は翼です。なお isle 風の綴りは後世の連想で、aileron も同じ語根です。
Aisle comes from Old French aile or aisle, from Latin ala, meaning "wing." In church buildings, the side part next to the main hall was seen as a "wing," and that idea later came to mean a side passage. The modern spelling was influenced by isle, but the word is not originally related to islands; aileron shares the same root.
