corridorはフランス語 corridor を経て、イタリア語 corridore、さらにラテン語 currere「走る」にさかのぼります。corr- には「走る」の核があり、current や course も同根です。人が行き来する細長い通路だったため、廊下の意味になりました。
Corridor came through French from Italian corridore, based on Latin currere, meaning "to run." The root idea is movement or running, which also appears in current and course. The word was used for a passage where people move back and forth, and so it became the ordinary word for a hallway.
