Etymology
関連語:Mennonite(メノナイト派)。
Amish derives from the name of Jakob Ammann, a Swiss Anabaptist leader active in the late seventeenth century. His followers separated from other Mennonite groups after disputes concerning church discipline and related practices, and their community came to be identified by a form of his surname. The name entered English as the designation for the religious group and its members. Because it identifies a specific community, standard English normally writes Amish with an initial capital.
