anaphylaxis は、アナフィラキシーという重い急性アレルギー反応を指す語です。医療の文脈で使われ、日本語の「アナフィラキシー」とほぼ同じ意味ですが、緊急対応が必要な状態を表します。

The term was formed in modern scientific French from Greek ana-, used here with the sense of “against” or “contrary to,” and phylaxis, “protection.” It was introduced for an unexpectedly harmful reaction following exposure to a substance, in contrast with prophylaxis, or protection against disease. The word therefore reflects the paradox of a defensive biological system producing a dangerous response.
