覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
arbitral は arbitration(仲裁)や arbitrator(仲裁人)を知っていると一気に覚えやすいです。語尾の -al は legal, judicial と同じく「〜に関する」という形なので、「仲裁に関する」が基本線。法律・契約文脈で arbitral award(仲裁判断), arbitral tribunal(仲裁廷)の形で頻出します。judicial が裁判所ルートなら、arbitral は裁判外の仲裁ルート。つづりが近い arbitrary(恣意的)とは意味がかなり違うので、そこをセットで区別すると定着します。
Remember the family: `arbitration`, `arbitrator`, `arbitral`. The `-al` ending often means "related to," so `arbitral` means related to arbitration. Keep it away from `arbitrary`, which looks similar but has a very different meaning.

仲裁手続きは従来の訴訟よりも迅速で、費用も安く済むことが多い。

arbitral の語源・成り立ち Etymology
arbitral はフランス語 arbitral を経て、ラテン語 arbiter「仲裁人」に由来し、-al は「…に関する」です。つまり「仲裁人に関する」が原形で、判断を外からねじ曲げるのでなく間に立って整える響きがあります。arbiter や arbitration が同根です。
"Arbitral" came into English through French from Latin "arbiter," meaning "judge," "witness," or "mediator." The ending "-al" means "related to," so the word first meant "relating to an arbitrator or arbitration." It keeps the sense of someone standing between sides to decide a dispute, and it is related to "arbiter" and "arbitration."
