解説
注意力や集中力に関する、心理学や認知科学で使われる形容詞。
覚え方のコツ
`attention` が分かればほぼ見える語。まず名詞 `attention`「注意」を思い出し、語尾 `-al` を「〜に関する」と読めば、`attentional` はそのまま「注意に関する」。日常語の `attentive` が「注意深い人・態度」を表すのに対し、こちらは心理学で `attentional control` や `attentional bias` のように、注意の働きや仕組みを客観的に述べる語。`intentional` と形が似るが、あちらは「意図的な」で別物。`pay attention` や `attention span` と結びつけると覚えやすい。

attentional は attention + -al で、attention はラテン語 attendere に由来します。ad-「〜へ」+ tendere「伸ばす」から「心を対象へ伸ばす」感覚で「注意の」となり、tension や extend も同じ tendere 系です。
