aware の語源・成り立ち Etymology
awareは古英語gewærにさかのぼり、ge-とwær「用心深い」に分けて考えられます。もとは「注意を向けている」感覚なので「気づいている」につながり、waryやbewareも同じ警戒の根を持つ語です。
Aware goes back to Old English gewær, which meant watchful or cautious. It is closely related to wary and beware, both built on the same old Germanic root of caution. Because a careful person notices what is around them, the meaning gradually moved from "watchful" to "conscious of" or "knowing about."
