bloggingのblogはweb logが縮まった語で、web「網」とlog「記録」から成り、もとはウェブ上の記録を指しました。logbookやbacklogも同じlogを含み、出来事を書き留める発想が、ネット上で書き続ける行為へ自然に広がった語です。
Blogging comes from blog, which was shortened from web log. Log originally meant a recorded account of events, as in a ship's log, and web referred to the World Wide Web.
