散らかす

物を乱雑に置いて散らかすこと。空間を整理されていない状態にする行為を指します。
Cluttering means making a place messy or too full of things. It is used when objects fill a space in a way that reduces order, movement, or clear thinking. The word usually has a negative sense.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
cluttering は clutter（散らかり・雑然さ）に -ing が付いた形。まず名詞の clutter を「机や部屋に物が積み上がって、必要な物が見えにくい状態」とイメージすると覚えやすい。動詞では「そのごちゃごちゃを作る」こと。room, desk, hallway, screen など、空間や画面を物・情報で埋めてしまう文脈でよく出る。単に dirty というより、余計な物が多くて邪魔な感じ。declutter（片づける）と対で覚えると定着しやすい。cluster とつづりが少し似るが、clutter は“整わない集まり”に注意。

cluttering は clutter + -ing。clutter は中英語 clotter に通じ、「塊」を表す clot 系の語から来たと考えられます。関連語は clot, clod で、物がごろごろ固まって空間をふさぐ感覚が、「散らかる」へつながりました。
Cluttering is from clutter plus -ing. Clutter is thought to be related to Middle English clotter and to the same family as clot and clod, words about lumps or masses. The basic image is things gathered in thick, messy heaps. From that, the sense developed into disorder that fills up a space.
