convulsing は convulse「けいれんする」の現在分詞で、ラテン語 convellere「激しく引きちぎる、ぐいと引く」に由来します。con-「共に」＋ vellere「引っぱる」から、体があちこちへ引かれるように震えるイメージとなり、「けいれんする」の意味になりました。関連語に convulsion、convulsive があります。
