二つ以上の事柄が一定の関係をもち、一方の変化に応じて他方も変わることを表す。特に統計・研究・データ分析でよく使われ、単なる関連よりも数値的・観察的に対応している響きがある。典型的には correlate with の形をとる。
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
relate「関連づける」が土台。そこに co-/cor-「一緒に」がついて、2つのものを並べて関係を見る語だと覚える。correlation（相関）, correlated with ... の形でよく出る。特にデータや傾向同士の結びつきを述べる語で、cause（原因）までは言わない点が重要。A correlates with B は『Aが増えるとBも連動する』感じ。relate より分析的で、associate より統計っぽい。
