correlate の語源・成り立ち Etymology
correlate の cor- は co-「共に」の同化形で、relate はラテン語 relatus（運び戻された）に由来します。もともと「別々のものを相互関係の中へ運び戻す」感覚から、相関させる意味になりました。relation、relative も同じ語根です。
Correlate comes from cor-, an assimilated form of co- meaning "together," and relate, which comes from Latin relatus, meaning "carried back." The word developed the sense of bringing separate things into relation with each other. Relation and relative come from the same root.
