courage の語源・成り立ち Etymology
courage は中英語を経て古フランス語 corage から入り、さらにラテン語 cor「心・心臓」に行き着きます。cordial や encourage と響き合う同根語で、昔は心が気力の座と考えられたため、『心の強さ』がそのまま『勇気』になりました。
