curating の語源・成り立ち Etymology
curating は curate の -ing 形で、curator / curation から生まれた比較的新しい動詞です。語源はラテン語 curare「世話をする」にあり、ただ並べるのでなく「注意深く面倒を見る」感覚から「選び整える」になりました。関連語は curator, cure。
Curating is the -ing form of the modern verb curate. The verb developed from curator and curation, members of a word family ultimately based on Latin curare, “to care for” or “to attend to.” A curator originally had responsibility for the care and supervision of a collection. From that institutional role, curate acquired the sense of selecting, arranging, and interpreting exhibits. More recently, the verb has expanded to carefully chosen and organized digital information, products, music, and other content.
