appreciate が「価値を認める・上がる」側なら、depreciate はその逆で「価値が下がる」側とセットで覚えると定着しやすいです。会計では depreciated asset や fully depreciated の形で出やすく、「時間経過や使用で価値が落ちた資産」の場面を思い浮かべるとよいです。なお software の deprecated とつづりが非常に紛らわしいですが、あちらは「非推奨」、こちらは「価値減少」です。

In accounting, this word often appears with `depreciation expense`, `fully depreciated`, and `balance sheet`, so connect it to assets losing book value over time. Also keep it separate from `deprecated`, which is common in IT and means something very different.
