dethrone の語源・成り立ち Etymology
dethrone は de-「下へ・奪う」+ throne「玉座」から成る語です。throne はギリシャ語 thronos がラテン語・古フランス語を経て入ったもので、文字どおり「玉座から下ろす」から「王位を奪う」になりました。関連語は enthrone, throne。
Dethrone is built from de- "down, away" and throne. Throne came through Latin and Old French from Greek thronos, meaning a seat or chair of authority. The word first meant literally removing someone from a throne, then more generally taking away royal power. A related English word is enthrone.
