場所や状況がよく分からなくなり、どこにいるのか、どう行動すべきか把握できない状態を表す形容詞。方向感覚を失った場合にも、頭が混乱して判断しにくい場合にも使われる。
If someone feels disorientated, they are confused and do not feel sure about where they are or what is happening. It is often used for a person who feels mentally confused or loses their sense of direction, especially after a sudden change, shock, or unfamiliar experience.

disorientated は dis-「失う・逆にする」+ orient「東・方角」+ -ated からなる。orient はラテン語 oriens「日の昇る東」に由来し、そこから「位置づける」の意へ広がった。orientation や oriental も同根で、「方角を失う」がそのまま混乱の意味になる。
Disorientated is formed from dis- and orientated. Orient comes from Latin oriens, meaning "the east" or literally "rising," because it referred to the place where the sun rises; related words include orientation and oriental. The sense later expanded from facing east to being properly placed or directed. With dis-, the word came to mean losing one’s sense of direction or mental bearings.
