distasteはdis-（離れて・否定）+ taste（味わう）から成り、tasteは古フランス語taster、さらに俗ラテン語tastareにさかのぼります。tasteやtastyと同根で、『口に合わない感覚が心にも広がる』と考えると、嫌悪感の意味が腑に落ちます。
