数学で、ある数を割り切ることができる整数のこと。
A divisor is a number by which another number is divided. In mathematics, it can also mean a number that divides another number exactly, with nothing left over. The word is mainly used in math study and technical explanations.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
divide, division, divisible など「divi- = 分ける・割る」の仲間として束で覚えると定着しやすい語です。divisor の -or は actor などと同じく「その役目をするもの」を連想すると、「割る役の数」と見えてきます。12 ÷ 3 なら 3 が divisor。結果の quotient ではなく、割り切れるかを判定する基準の数です。dividend（割られる数）や denominator と混同しやすいので、式の中でどちら側の数かを毎回確認すると崩れません。
Keep it with the `divide` family: `divide`, `division`, `divisible`, `divisor`. The ending `-or` helps again: it is the number that does the dividing job. In `12 ÷ 3`, the `divisor` is `3`, so picture it on the outside of the division action, not the answer.

divisor はラテン語 dividere「分ける」から来た divis- に、行為者や道具を表す -or が付いた語です。divide や division と同根で、「全体を割って部分に分けるもの」と見ると、約数の役割がそのまま見えてきます。
Divisor comes from Latin dividere, meaning "to divide" or "to separate." It uses the stem divis- with the ending -or, which often marks an agent or instrument. The word therefore meant something that divides, and it shares its root with divide and division.
