explicable はラテン語 explicare「折りたたみをほどく」から来て、ex-「外へ」+ plicare「折る」でできています。explicit や implicit と同根で、「畳まれたものを開けば分かる」と考えると「説明可能な」が腑に落ちます。
Explicable comes from Latin explicare, made from ex- "out" and plicare "to fold." It is related to explicit and implicit, which share the same folding image. The original idea was "unfolding" something so it can be understood, which led to the sense of being able to be explained.
