胃と腸に炎症が起きる病気。嘔吐や下痢、腹痛などの症状を伴う。
覚え方のコツ
gastro- は gastric（胃の）、enter- は enteric（腸の）、-itis は arthritis や tonsillitis にも出る「炎症」。3つに割ると「胃＋腸＋炎症」で、そのまま胃腸炎。gastritis が胃炎、enteritis が腸炎なので、gastroenteritis は両方にまたがる病気だと整理すると忘れにくい。嘔吐・下痢・腹痛がセットで起きる場面、doctor says the child has gastroenteritis のような診断表現と結びつけて覚えると定着しやすい。
