得た
解説 Definition
got は get(得る、手に入れる)の過去形・過去分詞です。何かを受け取ったり、手に入れたりしたことを表します。
Got is the past tense and, especially in British English, a past participle of get. In this sense, it indicates that someone received, obtained, or came to possess something at an earlier time.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
got は get の不規則な過去形・過去分詞です。getted とはせず、get–got–got(米語では過去分詞 gotten も一般的)と変化します。現在の get /ɡet/ に対し got は /ɡɒt/ または /ɡɑːt/。got a book、got a letter のように「受け取った・手に入れた」と覚えましょう。
Remember the irregular sequence get–got–got, with gotten also commonly used as a past participle in American English. Do not form the past as “getted.” The vowel changes from /e/ in get to the vowel heard in got, whose exact pronunciation varies by accent. Attach the form to simple past-time combinations: got a book, got a letter, and got tickets. In each case, something came into the person’s possession. Context is important because got has many other meanings, but these examples all mean received or obtained.
例文
I got a new book.
私は新しい本を手に入れました。
She got a letter today.
彼女は今日手紙を受け取りました。
We got tickets for the game.
私たちはその試合のチケットを手に入れました。

got の語源・成り立ち Etymology
古ノルド語 geta(得る、つかむ)に由来し、ゲルマン祖語 *getaną に遡る。印欧祖語 *gʰed-(つかむ、握る)が語源。関連語:get, forget(つかんだものを失う)。「手でつかみ取る」が原義で、入手・理解など広い意味に展開した。
Get entered English largely through Old Norse geta, meaning “to obtain, reach, or beget,” and is related to other Germanic words concerning acquiring or producing. Got developed as its irregular past form through historical sound and inflectional changes rather than by adding -ed. In modern British English, got is also the usual past participle; American English often distinguishes got from gotten in some uses.
