oneは古英語an、さらにゲルマン祖語*ainazにさかのぼります。分解しにくい単純語ですが、核は「一つだけ・まとまった一単位」で、数というより独立した一個を立てる感覚です。onlyやaloneも同じ感覚を受け継いだ仲間です。
"One" comes from Old English "an," from Proto-Germanic "*ainaz." It is an old basic word for a single unit or one separate thing. Over time, that sense of singleness also appeared in related words like "only" and "alone."
