子どもや判断能力が十分でない人に代わって、生活や教育、法的な手続きなどを見守り支える人を指す。家庭での保護者にも、裁判所などが選ぶ後見人にも使われる語で、広く「守る立場の人」という意味にも広がる。法律や福祉の文脈でよく使われる。
