口から胃へ食物を送る管状の器官。食道のこと。
The gullet is the passage inside the body that carries food from the mouth to the stomach. In medical English, this is called the esophagus. Gullet is an older or more informal word and may also simply mean the throat in general use.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
gullet は『食べ物がごくっと通る細い通路』として覚えると残りやすい。まず gulp（ごくごく飲み込む）を知っていれば、その gulp した物が落ちていく管が gullet と結びつけられる。throat が外から見た「のど」全体なのに対し、gullet は飲食物の通り道という内側のイメージ。鳥や魚など動物の説明でも出やすく、『えさが gullet を通って胃へ行く』場面で固定すると忘れにくい。
Link it to `gulp`, the action of swallowing. The idea is that food or drink goes down through the `gullet`. It helps to contrast it with `throat`: `throat` is the general everyday word, while `gullet` gives a more inside, food-passage image.
