解説 Definition
通りがかりの車に合図をして無料で乗せてもらい、目的地まで移動することを表す動詞。自分で交通手段を手配せず、見知らぬ運転手の好意に頼って旅をする場合に使われ、冒険的な移動手段という含みを持つこともある。
To hitchhike means to travel by asking passing drivers to give you a free ride. It is usually used for road travel and is less common today because of safety concerns in many places.
