Insularity means the condition of being isolated, or the attitude of being narrow-minded because of limited contact with others. It can describe places, communities, or ways of thinking that are closed to outside ideas.

insularity はラテン語 insula「島」から出た insular に -ity が付いた語で、語の核は「島らしさ」です。insulate や peninsula も同じ insula に連なり、周囲と隔てられた島の感覚が、そのまま「島国性・閉鎖性」の意味へ伸びたと分かります。
Insularity comes from Latin insula, meaning "island," through insular plus the noun ending -ity. At first the word simply carried the idea of being island-like. From the image of an island being separate from its surroundings, the meaning grew into isolation or narrowness of outlook. It is related to insular, insulate, and peninsula.
