解説 Definition
「興味がある」は何かに関心や好奇心を持ち、自分から知りたい・関わりたいと感じる状態を表す形容詞です。人や出来事など自分を惹きつける対象があり、それに心が向いている様子を示します。「〜に興味がある」「〜に関心を寄せる」などの形で、自分の気持ちを表現する際によく使われます。
If someone is interested in something, they want to know more about it or are attracted to it. It is often used for hobbies, subjects, activities, or opportunities. It is commonly followed by in: interested in music, science, or a job.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
interest を知っていれば覚えやすい語です。interested は「興味を起こさせられた状態」で、人の気持ちに使う形。だから I’m interested in music. のように in と結びつきやすいです。対比で interesting は「それ自体が興味深い」で、The book is interesting. の形になることが多いです。interested は「自分の関心が向く」、interesting は「相手が関心を引く」と整理すると混同しにくくなります。
Remember the common pattern "eager to + verb": eager to learn, eager to help, eager to start. It usually goes with action words, so think of someone leaning forward, ready to do something. Compared with "ambitious," it sounds more about readiness than big career goals.

interested は interest + -ed で、interest はラテン語 interesse「間にある・重要である」から来ています。心が物事の「あいだに入り込む」感覚から「興味をもつ」になり、interesting や disinterested も同じ核を共有します。
Interested comes from interest plus the ending -ed. Interest comes from Latin interesse, which originally meant "to be between" and later "to matter" or "be important."
