jade は単独で丸暗記するより、まず jade green という定番表現と結びつけると残りやすいです。宝石名であると同時に、「深く落ち着いた緑」のイメージを運ぶ語として覚えるのがコツ。emerald も緑の宝石ですが、emerald が強く鮮やかな宝石感を出しやすいのに対し、jade はやややわらかく上品で、彫刻や装飾品に使われる石の印象があります。jade bracelet, jade statue, Chinese jade などのまとまりで覚えると定着しやすいです。なお jaded（うんざりした）とはつづりが近いので混同に注意。

jade の語源・成り立ち Etymology
jade はフランス語 jade を経て、スペイン語 piedra de ijada「脇腹の石」に由来する語で、ijada は「脇腹」を表す。腎臓や脇腹の痛みに効くと信じられた石だったため、色より効能のイメージが名になった。iliac や ilium は遠く同じ語源に連なる。
Jade came into English through French jade, from Spanish piedra de ijada, literally "stone of the side." The word ijada meant "side" or "flank," because this stone was once believed to help pain in the side or kidneys. So the name first came from a supposed healing use, not from the stone's color.
