juggling は juggle＋-ing。juggle は古フランス語 jogler を経て、ラテン語 ioculari「冗談を言う・ふざける」にさかのぼり、もとは“おどけて芸をする”感覚だった。jocular や joke と同根。
Juggling comes from juggle plus -ing. Juggle came through Old French jogler and goes back to Latin ioculari, meaning "to joke" or "to play." The older idea was performing tricks or playful acts to entertain people, and later it became more closely linked with skillful object-handling. Related words include jocular and joke.
