kickは中英語kikkenを経て古ノルド語系の「跳ねる・突く」感覚をもつ語群に連なり、接頭辞などには分けにくい語です。核にあるのは足先が瞬間に弾んで力を伝える動きで、だから蹴るは押すより鋭い一撃として感じられます。kickoffやkickerも同じ語幹です。
