lexico-はギリシャ語lexikon『言葉・辞典』、-graphyはgraphein『書く』に由来します。つまり『言葉を書き記すこと』が原像で、dictionary作りがまさに語を記述する営みだと見えてきます。lexiconやlexicalが同じlex系です。
Lexicography comes from Greek roots: lexico-, from lexikon, related to words and dictionaries, and -graphy, from graphein, meaning "to write."
