lexicography の語源・成り立ち Etymology
lexico-はギリシャ語lexikon『言葉・辞典』、-graphyはgraphein『書く』に由来します。つまり『言葉を書き記すこと』が原像で、dictionary作りがまさに語を記述する営みだと見えてきます。lexiconやlexicalが同じlex系です。
