mannered の語源・成り立ち Etymology
mannered は manner に -ed が付いた形で、「ある作法を身につけた」が原感です。manner は古フランス語 maniere、さらにラテン語 manus「手」にさかのぼり、もとは「手の扱い方」でした。だから manners が礼儀作法を表し、manual も同じ語根です。
