neodymium の語源・成り立ち Etymology
neodymium はギリシャ語 neo-「新しい」+ didymos「双子」に由来します。neologism や neonatal は neo- と同根で、この元素は didymium という「双子のように見えた物質」から新たに分離されたため「新しい双子」と名づけられました。
Neodymium was formed from Greek neo- "new" and didymos "twin." It was named after the older substance didymium, which seemed like a single material but was later separated. The new element was therefore called a "new twin," and neo- appears in English words like neologism and neonatal.
