悪い行いや不祥事などが原因で広く知られていること、またはその評判を指す。単に有名であるというより否定的な評価を強く含み、犯罪者や不正企業、評判の悪い人物について使われる。ニュースや文章では gain notoriety の形でもよく現れる。
Notoriety is fame for something bad or negative rather than something good. A person, place, or event with notoriety is widely known because of scandal, crime, or other unwanted attention. It is different from ordinary fame, which can be positive.
