Oman is a country on the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula, officially called the Sultanate of Oman. Its capital is Muscat, and the country has a long maritime history and coastlines on the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman.

The English name Oman comes from Arabic ʿUmān, the Arabic name of the country and region.
