panorama はギリシャ語 pan「すべて」と horama「見えるもの」から作られた語です。もとは18世紀末に、周囲をぐるりと見せる大きな絵画展示を指しました。そこから、広い景色全体を一望できる「パノラマ」という意味につながります。
Parochial came into English through Late Latin parochialis, from Greek paroikia. That Greek word combined para, meaning "near," and oikos, meaning "house" or "home," and first referred to a local church district. From the sense of belonging to one local parish, it later developed the wider idea of being limited to a narrow local view; parish and ecology share the oikos root.
