キリスト教の組織単位で、特定の地域を管轄する司祭の領域です。宗教的で地域的な行政区画を表します。
A parish is a local area that has its own church, especially in some Christian traditions. It can also mean the group of people who belong to that church. The word is mainly used in religious and sometimes historical or administrative contexts.

古フランス語 paroisse を経て、後期ラテン語 parochia、さらにギリシャ語 paroikia（隣に住むこと）に遡る。para-（傍ら）+ oikos（家）が語根。関連語: parochial（教区の→視野が狭い）、economy（oikos + nomos＝家の管理）。「隣り合う家々の共同体」が教区の原義。
Parish came into English through Old French from Late Latin parochia, and it goes back to Greek paroikia. The Greek word originally meant "living nearby" or "neighboring community," from para- "beside" and oikos "house." That sense of a group of nearby homes developed into the church district meaning, and it is also the source of parochial.
