Permian は Permian（ペルム紀）を指す語で、古生代の最後の地質時代です。約2億9900万年前から約2億5200万年前までの時代を表し、通常は英語では Permian と大文字で書かれます。

Permian was coined from Perm, the name of a city and region in Russia, with the suffix -ian, meaning “related to.” British geologist Roderick Murchison introduced the geological name in the nineteenth century after studying extensive rock formations in that region. The word therefore literally identifies strata and time associated with Perm. Its capital letter reflects its origin in a proper geographical name.
