解剖学で、骨盤の前下部を構成する骨の一部を指します。左右の恥骨は前方で恥骨結合を作り、骨盤の前側の構造を支えます。

pubis はラテン語 pubis「鼠径部・陰毛」に由来し、体毛が現れる成熟期を示す pubes とつながる語です。puberty や pubic も同根で、恥骨がこの名なのは「思春期に目立つ部位の骨」と考えると意味が結びつきます。
