覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
recipes は recipe「レシピ、調理法」の複数形で、母音字 e の後にそのまま s を付けます。発音は recipe /ˈres.ə.pi/ に対し recipes /ˈres.ə.piz/。three easy recipes や recipes for soup のように、複数の材料表・手順を比べる場面で覚えましょう。
Recipes is simply the plural of recipe: add s without changing the spelling of the base word. Recipe is pronounced /ˈres.ə.pi/, while recipes ends with /z/: /ˈres.ə.piz/. Picture several pages containing ingredient lists and step-by-step cooking instructions. This makes the plural meaning concrete in phrases such as three easy recipes, family recipes, and recipes for vegetable soup. A recipe tells you both what to use and how to prepare a dish; a menu, by contrast, only lists food that is available to order or serve.

recipes の語源・成り立ち Etymology
ラテン語 recipere(受け取る)の命令形 recipe(受け取れ)が語源。re-(再び)+ capere(取る)の合成語で、receive(受け取る)やcapture(捕える)と同根。元は医師が処方箋の冒頭に書いた指示語で、「材料を受け取って調合せよ」から料理の調理法の意味に転じた。
Recipe comes from Latin recipe, an imperative meaning “take” or “receive,” from recipere. Physicians once placed this instruction at the beginning of prescriptions to direct which ingredients should be taken and combined. The word later came to denote the complete written formula and eventually a set of cooking instructions. Recipes is the regular English plural, formed by adding -s to recipe.
