覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
recipe は日本語の「レシピ」でほぼそのまま覚えられるが、英語では「料理名」ではなく、ingredients(材料)+ amounts(分量)+ steps(手順)がまとまった“作り方の指示書”を指すと押さえると定着しやすいです。cook a recipe というより follow a recipe, a family recipe の形でよく使います。receipt とつづりが少し似ていますが、receipt は「レシート」なので混同注意。
`Recipe` is close to the word many learners already know, but be careful with the spelling. It is often used with `follow`, as in `follow a recipe`, not usually `cook a recipe`. Do not confuse it with `receipt`, which is the paper you get after buying something.

recipe の語源・成り立ち Etymology
recipe はラテン語 recipere「受け取る・取り入れる」由来で、中世ラテン語の処方箋の書き出し recipe「取れ」が英語化した語です。re-「後ろへ・再び」+ capere「取る」を含み、必要な材料を“取りそろえる指示”から今の意味になりました。関連語は receive、receipt。
"Recipe" comes from Latin "recipere," meaning "receive" or "take." In Medieval Latin, "recipe" was the opening word of medical instructions and meant "take," telling someone to take the listed ingredients. From that written instruction, the word later developed into its modern cooking sense; related English words include "receive" and "receipt."
