利用できる物資・資金・人材・時間などの資源全般を指す語。天然資源のような物理的なものだけでなく、組織が活動するために使える人的資源、情報、設備などにも広く用いられる。文脈によっては経営資源や学習に使える手段という意味でも使われる。

resources の語源・成り立ち Etymology
古フランス語 ressource（回復する手段）から。ラテン語 re-（再び）+ surgere（立ち上がる）が語源で、「再び立ち上がるための手段」が原義。困難から回復するために頼れるものが「資源・手段」へ発展した。関連語: surge（急上昇）、resurrection（復活）。
Resources comes from Old French ressource, meaning a means of recovery or help. It goes back to Latin re- "again" and surgere "to rise," so the original idea was something that helps you rise again. From that, it developed into anything you can draw on in difficulty, and then more generally into supplies, means, or assets. Related words include surge and resurrection.
