Etymology
English Sivan comes through Hebrew Sīwān, written סִיוָן, from Akkadian Simānu, the name of a month in the Babylonian calendar. The Akkadian name is associated with a designated season or time. The word entered Jewish calendrical usage during the period of strong Babylonian influence and was retained as the established name of the month, so it is best treated as an indivisible proper name in modern English.
