skil
スキル
解説 Definition
A rare or nonstandard spelling of skill, meaning an ability or technique developed through training, knowledge, and practice and used to perform a particular activity successfully.
Memory Tip
Treat skil as a rare or nonstandard form of the familiar word skill. The meaning is the same: an ability developed through learning and practice, such as communication skill or technical skill. The useful spelling reminder is that standard modern English doubles the final l: skill. Its older history connects the idea of skill with judgment and the ability to distinguish things clearly. When writing contemporary English, choose skill; expect skil mainly in historical material, special names, or simple misspellings.

Etymology
関連語: skillful(巧みな)、skilled(熟練した)。
Skil reflects the same historical word as modern skill. English borrowed it from Old Norse skil, whose senses included “distinction,” “discernment,” and “knowledge.” In Middle English, the word developed meanings involving reason, understanding, and practical ability. Standard modern English settled on the spelling skill with two l’s. Thus skil may occur as an older or nonstandard spelling, but it is not the usual contemporary form for acquired ability.
