sonata は、主にピアノやバイオリンなどの独奏楽器、または少人数の楽器のために作られた「ソナタ」という楽曲形式です。日本語の「ソナタ」とほぼ同じ意味で、クラシック音楽の作品名や曲の種類を説明するときによく使われます。
