Standardisation is the process of making things follow the same rules, size, or quality level. It is common in industry, technology, education, and business because it helps different systems or products work well together.

standardisationはstandard+-ise+-ationから成る。standardは古フランス語estandart「軍旗」由来で、フランク語系stand-「立つ」にさかのぼり、standやstandardizeと同根だから、「同じ旗の下に立たせる」が標準化の核になる。
