street は古英語 stræt を経た語で、起源はラテン語 strata via「舗装された道」です。strata は sternere「敷き広げる」から来ており、stratum や substrate も同根なので、street がもとは石を敷いて人が整えた道を指したと腑に落ちます。
Agree comes through Old French from a Latin-based form built from ad, "to," and gratum, "pleasing" or "welcome."
