生化学・化学での substrate は、酵素や触媒が実際に結合し、反応によって別の物質へ変えられる対象物質を指します。一般的な「下地」から、反応が起こる相手という専門用法に絞られた語で、濃度・親和性・活性部位の議論で使われます。
